Louvain Coopération works to improve the quality and availability of health care.
- Mental health
In several countries, we train healthcare professionals and develop channels for raising awareness and caring for patients with mental disorders.
- Comprehensive primary health care support
We train healthcare personnel, develop and renovate medical infrastructures (hospitals, clinics, etc.) and provide them with medical equipment and consumables.
- Non-communicable diseases
Diabetes and hypertension are wreaking havoc in the countries of the South. We are working with local health structures and peer educators to develop and strengthen the prevention and management of these diseases.
Louvain Coopération is developing mutual health insurances to enable people to finance their medical expenses.
- Development of basic mutual health insurances
Mutual insurances enable people to reduce their vulnerability to disease and limit the temporary or permanent disability of working people.
- Support to the creation of Unions of mutual health insurances
These Unions federate several basic mutual health insurances in order to develop expertise, improve their governance and increase membership.
- Strengthening national platforms
These platforms make it possible to legitimately defend the mutualist concept to the political authorities concerned.
Louvain Coopération coordinates projects in poverty areas to encourage local entrepreneurship and sustainable family farming.
- Support entrepreneurship
We have set up Local Economy Offices (in French: Guichets d’Économie Locale - GEL), which are training and advisory structures for small entrepreneurs.
Adult literacy - or functionnal literacy - is an important lever for development. It improves the management of small businesses through mastery of numbers and letters.
- Sustainable and family agriculture
In the face of climate change, we support farmers in the shift towards agriculture that respects the environment and those who depend on it.
and solidarity education
As a university NGO, Louvain Coopération's mission is to raise the awareness of the university community to the stakes of North-South relations by organizing events and projects.
- Festivals, conferences, symposiums...
The global citizenship and solidarity education team participates in a wide range of activities on Campus to reflect on the issues at stake in North-South relations.
Engineering students create, with their counterparts at local universities of the South, sustainable and appropriate solutions to problems experienced by communities in the South.
- Meta-Metis courses
Through the intervention of a professor from another discipline or from the South, a new perspective on a course or subject is offered to students from the North.
